Sixty-four defenders of Ukraine and a civilian U.S. national were released from Russian captivity in a POW swap on Wednesday, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reported on Telegram.
The freed officers, sergeants and privates had fought on the Donetsk and Luhansk axes, some defending Bakhmut.
The U.S. citizen, Suedi Murekezi, 35, had been arrested by the Russian occupiers in early June in Kherson, accused of participation in pro-Ukrainian protests. He had lived in Kherson for more than two years before the arrest, according to The Guardian.
Sadly, the bodies of four fallen heroes were returned to Ukraine within this swap.
