Beijing frowns on the idea of excluding Kyiv and Brussels in talks between the U.S. and Russia negotiations on Ukraine, stressing that any peace framework must include them on equal footing.

When you look at how the Trump administration has implemented a brazen and domineering policy towards Europe, treating its allies in this way, honestly, from a European perspective, it’s quite appalling,” said China’s special envoy for European affairs Lu Shaye, as reported by the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post.

He emphasized that peace terms cannot be decided solely by Moscow and Washington. He also expressed being “appalled” by President Donald Trump’s approach toward his country’s traditional European allies.

I believe European friends should reflect on this and compare the Trump administration’s policies with those of the Chinese government. In doing so, they will see that China’s diplomatic approach emphasises peace, friendship, goodwill and win-win cooperation,” he said.

The Chinese diplomat underscored that any peace process must recognize and involve all relevant parties, including European countries.

Various proposed solutions should be subject to equal discussion, rather than being dictated by a select few,” he said.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Beijing and Brussels can manage their differences through dialogue and avoid escalation in bilateral relations.

This, according to Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi, will set the stage for the next 50 years of successful cooperation, as reported by state-run Ukrinform.

“This year marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. Mutual respect and mutual benefit are the most valuable assets of this relationship, multilateralism is the strongest unifying principle, and cooperation is its defining characteristic,” Wang said.

China and the EU, he added, must focus on strengthening strategic communication, mutual trust, and long-term partnership.

“China remains confident in Europe and believes it can be a reliable partner. Both sides have the capability and wisdom to resolve differences through dialogue and move forward into a promising next 50 years of cooperation,” Wang said.
