In memoriam: Stepan Kubiv

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) expresses its deep sorrow at the sudden passing of Stepan Kubiv — a devoted friend of the global Ukrainian community, Ukrainian statesman, Member of Parliament of Ukraine, former Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, First Vice Prime Minister, and Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine.

Stepan Kubiv dedicated his life to serving Ukraine. In 2014, during the Revolution of Dignity and the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Stepan Kubiv assumed responsibility for critical state decisions, serving Ukraine as Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine and as a member of the National Security and Defense Council. His statesmanship, professionalism, and dedication to Ukraine were especially important at a time when the country was fighting for its freedom, stability, and European future.

He consistently supported initiatives aimed at preserving the historical memory of the Holodomor and bringing the truth about the genocide of the Ukrainian people to the world. In this important cause, he worked closely with the International Holodomor Committee of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), focusing his efforts on honoring the memory of the millions of victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 and affirming historical truth.

As a Member of Parliament of Ukraine, government official, and public figure, Stepan Kubiv worked consistently to strengthen Ukrainian statehood, develop the economy, support democratic institutions, and affirm Ukraine as a strong European state. He was also a sincere and devoted friend of the global Ukrainian community, maintaining close ties with Ukrainian communities abroad and understanding the importance of their role in securing international support for Ukraine.

“On behalf of the Ukrainian World Congress and the global Ukrainian community, I extend my sincere condolences to the family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues of Stepan Kubiv. Ukraine has lost a dedicated statesman who, at critical moments in history, served his country with dignity, responsibility, and faith in its future. His contribution to building an independent Ukraine, strengthening ties with the global Ukrainian community, and preserving the historical memory of the Holodomor will forever remain part of our shared memory,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.

The Ukrainian World Congress bows its head in mourning together with Stepan Kubiv’s family and all those who knew and respected him.

Eternal and blessed memory.
