Independence Day address: UWC President calls on the world to protect Ukraine

Address by Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Paul Grod from Kyiv on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Dear friends!

Would an independent Ukraine have been possible without its defenders? Without the unbreakable Ukrainian people? Without Ukraine’s strong friends around the world?

Today, on the 35th anniversary of the restoration of independence, we thank our defenders who are making history. We thank the countries that have stood with Ukraine all these years in the fight against Russian aggression. But Ukraine needs more.

In July alone, Russia launched 195 ballistic missiles at Ukraine. The price of Ukraine’s independence is human lives. Ukraine does not need sympathy; it needs modern anti-ballistic systems to protect against Russian missile terror.

On this Independence Day, I call on Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine around the world: reach out to your governments, urge them to protect Ukraine’s skies, stand with Ukraine in this fight, and remain with it until victory.

Glory to Ukraine!

Ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the UWC called on Ukrainian communities around the world to appeal to their governments to urgently strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, increase sanctions against Russia, and support Ukraine until victory.
