Ukrainian and pro-Ukrainian organizations in Ireland have issued a joint statement calling on their government, political leaders, and civil society to maintain support for Ukraine, uphold solidarity during this critical time, and ensure ongoing assistance.
“Ireland knows what it means to fight for freedom. It knows what it means to stand against the odds, to endure hardship, and to refuse to surrender its identity. Today, Ukraine fights that same battle – not just for itself, but for the principles that unite free nations,” the statement reads.
Eleven organizations signed the appeal to their government in Dublin, stressing the importance of supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and restoring stability in Europe and worldwide.
“From the first days of the war, Ireland has shown extraordinary solidarity with Ukraine. Over 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing terror have found refuge in the safe harbors of Irish communities. This solidarity has mattered – it has saved lives, given hope, and strengthened international resolve,” the statement continues.
However, support should not be seen as a past achievement – it must be an ongoing commitment, the signatories said.
“As Ukrainian, Irish, and international organizations engaged in humanitarian relief, advocacy, and cooperation, we recognise the profound impact of this support,” the statement says.
As one of the 27 members of the European Union, Ireland has become a true beacon of solidarity, but the need for support is now more urgent than ever. This issue is not just about Ukraine; it is about the future world that upcoming generations will inherit.
“The decisions made today will define not only Ukraine’s future but also the future of global stability and Ireland’s place within it,” the statement says.
