Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine convened a special session on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Ukrainian World Congress

On 25 August 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine, participants of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Annual General Meeting led by UWC President Eugene Czolij took part in a special session at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine convened on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the UWC.

The session was chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, who congratulated the UWC on its anniversary and highlighted its contribution to the re-establishment of Ukraine’s independence and consolidation of its statehood, as well as to this year’s historic achievements of Ukraine – the ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens to Schengen zone member states. The Minister emphasized that Ukrainian diaspora communities are the people’s ambassadors of Ukraine for advancing topical Ukrainian issues in the world and called upon the UWC and the Ukrainian diaspora for continued cooperation.

The participants were greeted by Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Patriarch Filaret, Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Archbishop of Chernihiv and Nizhyn Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate Yevstratiy,Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliia Hrynevych, Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nyschuk and Acting Minister of Health of Ukraine Dr. Ulana Suprun.

President Eugene Czolij spoke on behalf of the UWC. He emphasized the current priorities of the UWC, foremost furthering the consolidation of the international community in support of Ukraine’s defence of its territorial integrity, and the importance of continued effective cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the UWC.

During this session were also discussed issues of mutual concern, including the defence of the national interests of Ukraine and countering the Russian disinformation campaign, which constitutes part of the hybrid warfare of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The participants were also presented an exhibit of the Central State Archive of Foreign Uсrainica entitled “Our Love for Ukraine”.

“The Ukrainian World Congress thanks the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for the special session dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the UWC, and assures that the Ukrainian diaspora will continue to actively work to safeguard the territorial integrity of Ukraine and transform Ukraine into a fully European, reformed and prosperous state,” – said UWC President Eugene Czolij.
