Show your support for the Ukrainian people! Wear your vyshyvanka on May 16

Show your support for the Ukrainian people by wearing your vyshyvanka (embroidery) on International Vyshyvanka Day held traditionally on the third Thursday of May every spring, which this year is May 16. 

Embroidered clothing has become a symbol of Ukraine throughout the world and today represents the unity of and support for the Ukrainian people globally. Vyshyvanka Day has also been embraced by friends of Ukraine who who show their solidarity with the Ukrainian people by proudly wearing an embroidered article of clothing.

“At a time when Ukraine is defending its territory from Russia’s military aggression, let’s express our solidarity and unity with the Ukrainian people by celebrating their rich culture and traditions,” stated UWC President Paul Grod. “Proudly wear your vyshyvanka and show the world that you support the Ukrainian people.”

The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon all Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine to join in or organize Vyshyvanka Day celebrations around the world.  Please take a picture of yourself wearing vyshyttia (embroidery) and post it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram along with the hashtag #world_embraces_vyshyvanka [add your country of residence].
