The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) urges the international community to stand firmly with Ukraine and support its counteroffensive as a legitimate and necessary means of defense. This military action is justified under international law and is critical to achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s military operation in the Kursk region of Russia has exposed Russia’s vulnerabilities and demonstrated Ukraine’s capability to secure its independence. This operation is a lawful exercise under the UN Charter and showcases the creativity and courage of the Ukrainian military. The counteroffensive aims to neutralize Russia’s military threat, protect Ukrainian civilians, and safeguard critical infrastructure from further attacks. It will also reduce Russia’s capacity to wage war and strengthen Ukraine’s position in future peace negotiations,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.
Ukraine has made it clear that it has no plans to annex the occupied parts of Russia and that its military will act in strict accordance with international humanitarian law.
The success of Ukraine’s counteroffensive is vital for several reasons. Firstly, it diminishes Russia’s ability to launch military incursions and missile strikes against Ukraine’s civilian population. Secondly, it creates the conditions necessary for meaningful peace negotiations, rather than ultimatums from the Russian leadership. Thirdly, it paves the way for the further liberation of Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This will help restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity and reaffirm the principle of inviolability of borders, a cornerstone of international order. Finally, it will demonstrate the emptiness of Russia’s so-called “red lines.”
“Ukraine’s counteroffensive has already humiliated the Russian army and sown discord among Russian leadership. The Ukrainian military has debunked the myths of an ‘invincible Putin’s Russia’ and ‘World War Three’ propagated by Russian media. Putin’s Russia offers nothing to the world but hollow threats and blackmail,” Grod emphasized.
“The Ukrainian World Congress calls on the global community to stand in solidarity with Ukraine. Supporting Ukraine’s counteroffensive is not only about upholding international law but also about ensuring a stable and peaceful world order. Together, we can help Ukraine defend its sovereignty, protect its people, and pave the way for a just and lasting peace.”
