Ukrainian World Congress condemns extension of house arrest for Director of Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the order from 26 April 2016 of the Presnenskyi District Court in Moscow, Russian Federation,extending the house arrest of the Director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow, Nataliya Sharina, for another three months until 29 July 2016.

Nataliya Sharina was arrested on 28 October 2015 following raids on the Library of Ukrainian Literature and her home, and accused of “inciting national enmity or hatred.”

“The Ukrainian World Congress appeals to all Commissioners of human rights and international human rights organizations to monitor such attempts to impede the preservation of the Ukrainian culture in the Russian Federation, and protect the fundamental freedoms of all national minorities in the Russian Federation,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
