The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) congratulates UWC Director of Humanitarian Initiatives Dr. Ulana Suprun on being appointed Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine.

An active medical aid worker during the EuroMaidan protests, Dr. Suprun quickly understood the health care needs in Ukraine and, together with her husband Marko, worked to find practical and impactful solutions. Dr. Suprun was a founder of the extremely successful UWC humanitarian initiative Patriot Defence which to date has provided Combat Lifesaver training to 26,524 soldiers and 4,317 cadets, and distributed more than 21,500 NATO-standard individual first aid kits (IFAKs). A Long Range Patrol Medic program has provided training to 261 soldiers with a distribution of some 180 tactical medical backpacks. In the Ukrainian Trauma Life Support program some 97 military and 82 civilian doctors have been trained in accordance with international medical standards.

Dr. Ulana Suprun was nominated for the position of Deputy Minister of Health by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman with the support of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.

In addition, as Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Dr. Suprun was appointed Acting Minister of Health of Ukraine.

With this appointment, Dr. Ulana Suprun is stepping down from her positions as UWC Director of Humanitarian Initiatives and Director of the UWC humanitarian initiative Patriot Defence to assume her new role in the Ministry of Health.

The interim UWC Director of Humanitarian Initiatives will be Victor Hetmanczuk, President of the Canada Ukraine Foundation, and the interim Director of the UWC humanitarian initiative Patriot Defence will be Marko Suprun. Permanent appointments will be announced at the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the UWC scheduled for 25-27 August 2016 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian World Congress extends best wishes to Dr. Suprun on her appointment as Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine and expresses every confidence that, in her new role, she will make a lasting contribution to the continued development of health care in Ukraine for the benefit of every citizen,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
