Ukrainian World Congress President concludes working visit to Armenia

On 5-6 July 2016, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij concluded a working visit to Yerevan, Armenia, where he met with representatives of governing authorities and civil society, and the Ukrainian community of Armenia.

During a meeting with the Director of the Armenian government’s Department of National Minorities and Religions, Vardan Aszatryan, and the Coordinator of the President of Armenia’s Coordinating Council of National-Cultural Organizations of National Minorities, Narine Gulyan, the UWC President expressed gratitude for the support of the Ukrainian minority in Armenia, including providing facilities for their activities, and focused attention on issues related to its further development. Also discussed was the law, in accordance with which the national minorities in Armenia will be represented in the Parliament of Armenia by four individuals.

Future cooperation with respect to international recognition of the genocides of the Ukrainian and Armenian nations was touched upon by Eugene Czolij during a meeting with the First Vice-President of the Armenian Congress, Aram Sarkisyan.

The UWC President also laid flowers at the Taras Shevchenko monument.

Eugene Czolij held a meeting with the Ukrainian community in Yerevan organized by the Federation of Ukrainians in Armenia chaired by Anna Trehub. During this meeting he presented the work of the UWC.

Eugene Czolij also laid flowers at the Memorial to victims of the Armenian genocide and visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute where he met with its Deputy Director, Lusine Abrahamyan.

While in Armenia, the UWC President was accompanied by Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in Armenia Vadym Pikhulia, First Secretary (consular affairs) Vasyl Serdeha, Anna Trehub and UWC Liaison Officer in the EU Maryna Iaroshevych.

“This visit presented the opportunity to discuss with representatives of the governing authorities of Armenia support for the local Ukrainian community, and to become better acquainted with its activities,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
