The US Senate proposed considering Russia’s use of nuclear weapons against Ukraine as an attack on NATO. The corresponding resolution was presented by high-ranking officials of both the Republican and Democratic parties.
“We believe that nuclear weapons used in Ukraine will release radiation to large areas in Europe where NATO allies are located,” said Republican Lindsey Graham, who along with Democrat Richard Blumenthal registered the draft document.
The threat of Russia using nuclear weapons is now the highest since the Cuban Missile Crisis (October 1962), the senators believe. Graham says the best way to prevent a disaster is to explain to the Russians the consequences of their actions.
Putin will be increasingly tempted to use nuclear weapons or detonate the ZNPP, as Ukrainians will continue to liberate their lands, Senator Blumenthal added.
“Any of these actions will have devastating consequences for the health of Ukrainians, but also of neighboring NATO countries. Poland is at immediate risk. After all, the use of tactical nuclear weapons or the destruction of nuclear power plants will spread radiation and almost certainly harm people,” a representative of the Democratic Party stated.
Now the parties have to approve the contents of the presented resolution. However, it is worth noting that the document will only have a recommendation nature.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that the threat of Russian President Vladimir Putin using tactical weapons is “real”.
