The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the extension of European Union (EU) sanctions against the Russian Federation for another year in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. This decision made by the Council of the European Union on 18 June 2018 prolongs the current sanctions regime until 23 June 2019.

These sanctions restricting economic relations were first introduced in 2014 following the illegal annexation by the Russian Federation of Crimea and Sevastopol. The restrictive measures include prohibition on imports of all products originating in Crimea into the EU, specific types of exports to Crimea, investment and financing of Crimean companies, and EU tourism services in Crimea.

“The Ukrainian World Congress commends the EU for demonstrating its firm commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and for maintaining the sanctions against the Russian Federation in place until Crimea and Sevastopol return to Ukrainian control,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
