European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv Saturday on her second visit since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine to discuss with President Volodymyr Zelensky the country’s bid to join the EU.
“The discussions today will enable us to finalize our assessment [the EC opinion regarding Ukraine’s application] by the end of next week,” the EC president said.
Speaking to the media, von der Leyen called Ukraine a “solid, well-grounded, parliamentary-presidential system” despite the “incredible circumstances.” “To get me right, Ukraine is at war, so your focus and our support is in overcoming this atrocious horrible war,” she said.
The people of Ukraine are showing incredible strength and stamina.
