The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is continuing the #russianShameDay global campaign that was launched on May 9, 2022, to spread the truth about the heinous crimes committed by Russia in its unprovoked and genocidal war against the Ukrainian people.
By distorting historical facts, russia and its criminal leadership use the memory of the victory over Nazism in World War II to promote militarism, to justify its genocidal war of aggression against Ukraine, and its pursuit of aggressive policies against the world’s democracies.
One of the weapons that russia uses in its hybrid aggression is the so-called “Immortal Regiment,” marches and demonstrations that are coordinated by Moscow; UWC calls for these marches to be banned in all EU member states.
The Ukrainian World Congress calls on supporters of Ukraine worldwide, on the eve of the Day of Russian Shame on May 9, to hold informational and awareness-raising rallies using key messages and visual materials prepared by the UWC.
UWC calls upon community organizers around the world to appeal to Ukraine’s allies, to the governments and political leaders in all peace-loving countries around the world, and ask them to:
- Join the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine;
- Secure justice and responsibility for the aggressor state;
- Declare the Russian war crimes and atrocities in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people;
- Designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism/terrorist state;
- Prohibit events that justify or promote the aggression, in violation of the Genocide Convention.
In all written communications, we kindly request using lowercase when referring to the aggressor state and sharing testimonies of civilians who have suffered from russian terrorism.
Additional information, including instructions on how organizations can get involved, is available on the russianShameDay website.
