UWC President, Ukraine’s UN envoy meet in New York

A working meeting took place in New York between Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), and His Excellency Ambassador Andrii Melnyk, Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The talks, held on May 4, focused on key diplomatic initiatives aimed at advancing a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

A central item on the agenda was promoting a United Nations Security Council resolution aimed at achieving a fair ceasefire. The sides discussed practical mechanisms needed to secure sufficient support among member states for the initiative.

Grod and Melnyk also addressed ways to strengthen the European Union’s leadership role through coordinated diplomatic action. They discussed expanding engagement with countries of the Global South, whose influence in international institutions continues to grow.

The meeting also underscored the need for visible, consistent international advocacy and unified leadership within the UN system to help achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

The UWC confirmed plans to significantly step up its presence in two key hubs of global diplomacy – New York and Geneva. The organization, which unites Ukrainian communities worldwide, views its global network as a strategic asset to keep Ukraine’s priorities at the center of the international agenda.

The meeting came at a time when diplomatic efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine require coordinated action not only from governments but also from civil society organizations. Coordination between global Ukrainian institutions and official diplomatic missions is becoming an important factor in sustaining broad international support for Ukraine.
