The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls upon the Leaders of the G20 countries to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and exclude Russian President Vladimir Putin from the G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for 15-16 November 2014 in Brisbane, Australia.

President Putin brazenly and repeatedly contravened the Charter of the United Nations and the international commitments of the Russian Federation by aggressively threatening the sovereignty of Ukraine and universal peace.

He has consistently ignored calls from the international community to remove Russian Armed Forces from the territory of Ukraine and cease supporting the militants who terrorize the people of Eastern Ukraine.

Russia has recognized the ‘pseudo-elections’ held on 2 November 2014 in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Eastern Ukraine in blatant disregard of the Minsk agreements of 5 and 19 September 2014.

The Russian President also denies any responsibility for the indiscriminate, inhumane actions of Russia-backed terrorists resulting in the shooting down of the MH 17 passenger plane over Ukraine with the loss of 295 lives, including from six G20 states.

The UWC commends the firm position of international Leaders on Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and the subsequent invasion of Eastern Ukraine. A decision to exclude President Vladimir Putin from the G20 Leaders’ Summit would further reinforce the message that the Russian Federation’s clear violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity will not be tolerated.

“It is imperative for the G20 Leaders to act promptly and decisively,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “Otherwise, the Russian Federation will continue to make a mockery of its international obligations and will be emboldened to threaten peace and security not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world.”
