On 10 May 2014 in Montreal, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij met with the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) during his pastoral visit to Canada.
Eugene Czolij informed the Patriarch about the main activities of the UWC in 2014, including humanitarian aid initiatives in Ukraine related to the EuroMaidans and current aggressive acts by Russia, and the UWC International Election Observation Mission for the Presidential Elections on 25 May 2014.
Also discussed during the meeting were the importance for Ukrainian citizens in Ukraine and abroad to vote in the upcoming Presidential Elections, the recent meeting in Rome between His Holiness Pope Francis and Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk, the progress in completing the Patriarchal Sobor in Kyiv and the continued cooperation between the UWC and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
On 11 May 2014 Eugene Czolij officially extended greetings to Patriarch Sviatoslav on behalf of the UWC during a banquet in Montreal in his honor highlighting the significance of the Patriarch’s consecration of the entire Ukrainian nation to the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God on 2 February 2014.
