Ukrainian World Congress reiterates call for military assistance for Ukraine

with most recent crossing of its border by Russian military

On 14 August 2014 a convoy of Russian military vehicles, including armoured personnel carriers and tanks, crossed the border into Ukraine in plain view with clear markings of the Russian Armed Forces.

First reported by the media, the crossing of Ukraine’s border was confirmed on 15 August 2014 by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

“It just confirms the fact that we see a continuous flow of weapons and fighters from Russia into eastern Ukraine and it is a clear demonstration of continued Russian involvement in the destabilisation of eastern Ukraine,” the NATO chief said.

Despite repeated calls by Western leaders for Russia to de-escalate the conflict, it is transparently clear that Russia has no intention of withdrawing its troops from Ukrainian territory. The most recent open violation of Ukraine’s border by the Russian military must be interpreted as a snub of international actions to date and should neither be ignored nor tolerated.

“With its continued aggression and blatant disregard for Ukraine’s territorial integrity Russia continues to violate international law,” stated Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij. “The UWC urges the international community to come to Ukraine’s assistance with the necessary military aid to increase the capacity of Ukraine’s armed forces in defending both its borders and its people against the unrelenting and unprovoked attacks by Russia.”
