Ukrainian World Congress welcomes G-7 Leaders Statement on Ukraine
and calls for immediate concrete and effective action
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the G-7 Leaders Statement on Ukraine from 26 April 2014and calls for immediate concrete and effective action.
Joined by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, the G-7 leaders expressed deep concern over the continued efforts by separatists backed by Russia to destabilize Eastern Ukraine and affirmed their commitment to taking further steps to ensure a peaceful and stable environment for the 25 May presidential election.
Commending Ukraine for meeting its commitments under the Geneva accord of 17 April 2014 between Ukraine, Russia, the European Union, and the United States, the G-7 leaders emphasized that, in contrast, Russia has taken no concrete actions in support of the Geneva accord and has continued to escalate tensions with ongoing threatening military maneuvers on Ukraine’s border.
Strongly condemning Russia’s illegal attempt to annex Crimea and Sevastopol, the G-7 leaders declared that they will now follow through on the full legal and practical consequences of this illegal annexation, including but not limited to the economic, trade and financial areas.
“The Ukrainian World Congress urges the G-7 leaders to implement without delay concrete and effective measures to force an end to the brutal acts of violence against the Ukrainian people by Russian special units in Eastern Ukraine and the forceful occupation of Crimea,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
