The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is gravely concerned over the escalation since 18 December 2016 of attacks on positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by terrorist forces backed by the Russian Federation in Eastern Ukraine, particularly near Svitlodarsk which has been the target of intensified shelling.
The fighting has resulted in significant casualties among the Ukrainian Armed Forces and damaged civilian infrastructure leaving Svitlodarsk and surrounding villages without electricity.
“The Ukrainian World Congress condemns the escalation of fighting and urges the international community to remain vigilant over this Christmas season and maintain pressure on the Russian Federation to reduce its blatant violations of the Minsk agreements,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
