UWC President meets with Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner
On 25 February 2014 Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij met with the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, Nils Muižnieks.
The meeting involved a discussion of recent events in Ukraine and the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe shared impressions from his recent trip to Kyiv, stating that a report was being prepared with his conclusions.
Eugene Czolij focused on the imperativeness of immediately investigating, under the auspices of an advisory panel from the Council of Europe, violations of human rights during the EuroMaidan protests.
The UWC President also called for officials of the Council of Europe to monitor the situation in Eastern and Southern Ukraine, particularly in the Crimea, where internal and external forces are attempting to fuel separatist movements.
“The Ukrainian World Congress encourages the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe to make appropriate recommendations to ensure that the human rights of Ukrainian citizens are protected,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
