UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS SENDS A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REGARDING HIS STATEMENT ON THE CRIMINAL PROSECUTION OF OPPOSITION POLITICIANS IN UKRAINE
On February 11, 2011, Ukrainian World Congress President Eugene Czolij sent a letter to European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek regarding his statement on the criminal prosecution of opposition politicians in Ukraine, as reported on the website of the information agency UNIAN http://www.unian.net/ukr/print/419487.
In the letter, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) expressed support for the statement made by the President of the European Parliament on February 3, 2011 in Brussels that the current trend of criminal prosecution of opposition politicians in Ukraine puts into question the independence of the judiciary and the transparency of the rule of law in Ukraine.
“In the interests of regional stability, the Ukrainian World Congress encourages the European Parliament to continue monitoring the level of democracy in Ukraine,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
