TORONTO, Canada – The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is pleased to announce the election of Marc Shwec as Chair of the UWC Audit Committee and his appointment to the UWC Board of Directors. Mr. Shwec succeeds the late Alexander Neprel, assuming responsibility for ensuring the financial integrity and organizational accountability of the UWC.
Marc Shwec is a highly accomplished finance and operations executive with more than 30 years of distinguished leadership within the Ukrainian community in Canada and globally. His appointment is set to bolster the UWC’s institutional capacity during this critical period for Ukraine and the global diaspora.
In his new capacity, Shwec will focus on the following priorities:
- Financial compliance: Implementing the highest standards of internal control and audit governance, leveraging his expertise as a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
- Operational excellence: Optimizing management processes within the UWC based on his extensive executive experience in complex, multilateral organizations.
- Strategic advocacy: Strengthening the diaspora’s role in mobilizing support for Ukraine’s defense and democratic stability.
Mr. Shwec brings a formidable professional background, holding a degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA in Strategy and Finance, and a CMA designation. His lifelong commitment to the community spans from youth leadership in Ukrainian Youth Association (CYM) and Ukrainian Canadian Students’ Union (SUSK) to serving as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Toronto. Notably, he spearheaded the initiative that deployed 500 election observers to Ukraine during the 2004 presidential vote. Currently, he continues to lead major solidarity efforts as Chair of the Stand with Ukraine committee. For his exceptional contributions, Mr. Shwec was awarded the Shevchenko Medal, the UCC’s highest honor.
