These key dates, events, and initiatives in July serve as guideposts for advocacy efforts and should be considered when planning activities, communications, and strategic messaging.

Commemorative dates

  • July 5 – Ukrainian Navy Day
  • July 5 – 40th anniversary of the death of Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) leader Yaroslav Stetsko
  • July 6 – Air Defense Forces Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
  • July 15 – Ukrainian Statehood Day and the Day of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine
  • July 17 – 180th birthday of ethnographer and geographer Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay (1846–1888)
  • July 17 – 12th anniversary of Russia’s downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 (Boeing 777) over Donetsk Region, with 298 people on board, all of whom were killed
  • July 21 – 120th anniversary of the birth of Olena Teliha (née Shovheniv) (1906–1942), poet, publicist, OUN activist, and Ukrainian independence fighter of the 20th century
  • July 26 – Ukrainian Navy Day
  • July 29 – Fourth anniversary of Russia’s terrorist attack in Olenivka, where an explosion in a detention facility killed over 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war from “Azovstal” and left around 130 injured

  • July 4 – The Ukrainian National Federation of Canada will hold a large-scale Ivan Kupala celebration at Sokil Camp in Hoxton, Ontario
  • July 7–8 – NATO summit will take place in Ankara, Türkiye, at the Beştepe Presidential Complex
  • July 11–12 – The Niagara Ukrainian Family Festival will be held in Niagara Falls, marking its fourth anniversary this year
