Ukrainian warriors have once again demonstrated their unprecedented skills in using Western arms, now making Putin’s pride missile a mock.
The United States has no doubts that Ukraine did intercept Kinzhal (Kh-47M2), a Russian hypersonic missile, using an American-made Patriot air defense system, a source familiar with the matter told CNN on Sunday.
“I congratulate the Ukrainian people on a historic event! Yes, we brought down the ‘unmatched’ Kinzhal! Patriot. It happened during the night attack on May 4 in the sky over the Kyiv region. The Kh-47 missile was launched by a MiG-31K from the territory of Russia,” Ukraine’s Air Force Commander Gen. Mykola Oleschuk posted on Saturday.
The fact that a Ukrainian crew trained in Oklahoma intercepted Kinzhal without any U.S. advisers on the battlefield is “even more of a feather in the cap for the Pentagon”, the source added, calling it a “major return on investment.”
The Kh-47M2 Kinzhal is a nuclear-capable hypersonic ballistic missile. It is claimed to have a range of 1,200 miles and 10 times the speed of sound. It can be fired far from the battlefield, making its interception difficult.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has boasted that Russia’s hypersonic weapons are capable of overcoming all existing air defense systems.
