India to participate in Global Peace Summit

India has confirmed its participation in the Global Peace Summit. India is the first and currently the only one from the Global South to join the high-level meeting; Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the intentions in an interview with PTI.

India will participate in all important summits that promote the agenda of global peace, security and development,” the prime minister said, referring to the invitation to the G7 meeting and the Peace Summit in Switzerland.

Modi believes that India’s participation underscores the country’s significance and contribution to international affairs. “The invitations reflect the robust global engagement that we have in keeping with our philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family),” he said.

India will “resonate the voice of the Global South” to shape the global discourse and promote a vision of human-centered development and a prosperous and peaceful world. “The level of participation will be the factor of timing, logistics and parallel commitments, Modi said in response to a question on whether he will be attending the two multilateral gatherings.

Ukrainian authorities are trying to involve more participants in the meeting. Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Argentina’s President Javier Milei to the Peace Summit.

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) called on Ukrainian communities worldwide to appeal to their governments and leaders with a proposal to participate in this meeting. The Global Peace Summit is scheduled to take place on June 15-16, 2024, at the Bürgenstock resort near the city of Lucerne, Switzerland.
