Lithuania to create coalition for demining Ukraine

Lithuania will form a demining coalition to help Kyiv, the country’s Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas said.

“We are rallying a coalition for demining efforts with an aim to consolidate and coordinate the ongoing as well as planned assistance to Ukraine in this area. The coalition is being assembled according to the ‘train and equip’ principle used in the training assistance for the Ukrainians carried out in Lithuania with Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and soon – Denmark,” the minister said.

Anusauskas added that Lithuania invites other countries to join the coalition – in particular, to provide instructors and demining equipment.

In addition, the Minister of Defense announced that already this fall, Kyiv will receive NASAMS launchers from Lithuania. And the total contribution of Vilnius to aid Kyiv in July is EUR 24 million, Anusauskas added.
