Trump nominates retired Gen. Keith Kellogg as peace envoy for Ukraine and Russia

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated retired Lt.-Gen. Keith Kellogg as Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

Keith has led a distinguished Military and Business career, including serving in highly sensitive National Security roles in my first Administration,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE.”

Kellogg welcomed the nomination, emphasizing his commitment to pursuing peace.

I look forward to working tirelessly to secure peace through strength while upholding America’s interests. I am ready with the commitment and dedication it deserves,” Kellogg wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

At 80 years old, Kellogg is a Vietnam War veteran and a retired lieutenant general. He currently serves at the America First Policy Institute, a think tank promoting Trump’s vision for U.S. foreign and domestic policy.

Kellogg has wide-ranging experience in Europe, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa,” according to the institute’s website.

Kellogg first joined Trump’s team in 2017 as a national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence. He has also been a national security commentator on Fox News and CNN.

Earlier this year, Kellogg, alongside Fred Fleitz, former chief of staff of the national security council under Trump, proposed a “peace plan” for Ukraine.

The plan calls for freezing the front lines and pressuring both Kyiv and Moscow to hold talks. In exchange for postponing Ukraine’s NATO membership, the U.S. and NATO allies would offer a broad security agreement to incentivize Russia to negotiate.

“I’m not saying Trump agreed with every detail, but we were pleased with the feedback we received,” Kellogg said after presenting the plan.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Kellogg suggested that outgoing President Joe Biden’s approval of longer-range missile strikes on Russian territory has “actually given President Trump more leverage” on the issue.
