UCCA launches call-to-action campaign on Shevchenko’s birthday anniversary

The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) have announced a call-to-action campaign to the US House of Representatives. UCCA and UNIS urge the Ukrainian community to unite in a single voice to support Ukraine.

Each day the U.S. House of Representatives delays funding security assistance for Ukraine, innocent Ukrainians are being killed by the kremlin’s war machine! The importance of additional security assistance to Ukraine is self-evident and the lack of assistance from the United States has severely diminished Ukraine’s ability to defend its citizens,” UCCA’s statement reads.

UCCA and UNIS encourage the Ukrainian community to participate in a weekend phonathon, a unified call to Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson and the local representative on March 9th and 10th.

This upcoming weekend, communities will gather to honor Ukraine’s 19th century national bard Taras Shevchenko.  In recalling Shevchenko’s prophetic poem “The Caucasus,”  his powerful words are relevant to today’s heroic fight against russian aggression:

Keep fighting – you are sure to win!

God helps you in your fight!

For fame and freedom march with you,

And right is on your side!” the statement reads.

Whether at church services or community events, weekend gatherings provide a unique opportunity to collectively engage in a “Call to arms” initiative to break the stalemate in Congress and bring a supplemental national security assistance bill to a vote.

How to participate in the #SupportUkraine phonathon: call Speaker Johnson’s Capitol office:  202 225-4000; click www.house.gov, input your zip code to find your local Representative’s phone number; and, leave a message with the operator about the importance of a Ukraine supplemental bill.
