Ukraine attacks Russian Space Communications Center in Crimea

Explosions were reported at the center of the Deep-Space Communication Center of the Russian Aerospace Forces in occupied Crimea, according to the monitoring group Crimean Wind. Yurii Ihnat, the Ukrainian Air Force spokesman, confirmed the information about an attack.

“[There will be information] about the results maybe a little later, but ultimately the work is successful,” Ihnat said.

The explosions occurred overnight on December 20 and were heard throughout the entire territory of the military unit 28735 of the Border Service of the Russian FSB in the village of Soniachnohirske.

“Presumably, the attack was carried out with UAVs. One FSB serviceman was injured, and a satellite communication antenna was damaged,” Crimean Wind writes.

Later, at 05:00, an attack, possibly with Storm Shadow missiles, was carried out on the 40th separate command-measuring complex within the Titov Space Control Centre and Titov Space Centre of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the village of Vitino in the Saky district. At least 2 strikes were observed, and at least one piece of military equipment was reported damaged. There were no casualties.

Russia has withdrawn almost all its ships from its Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, with most vessels hidden in Novorossiysk. Previously, Russia’s fleet was based in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. However, powerful attacks by Ukraine damaged some Russian ships and forced the occupiers to seek a new location.

Earlier, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People called on the population of occupied Crimea to prepare for war on the peninsula, including taking measures to ensure their own safety.
