Ukraine Square in Brazil to be decorated with vyshyvanka pattern

Ukraine Square will be reconstructed in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, Paraná state. The territory will be renovated, and the road surface will reproduce the pattern of Ukrainian vyshyvanka [embroided shirt], the local authorities reported.

“Ukraine Square will be a venue for Ukrainian-themed events, such as fairs and festivals, and will also be connected to a shopping center and an inclusive children’s playground. The road surface will reproduce the pattern of Ukrainian embroidery,” the officials explained.

Ukraine Square has existed in Curitiba since 1967. There is also a monument to the poet Taras Shevchenko and the Ukrainian Memorial, which is considered the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality of the region, where a 600,000-strong Ukrainian community historically lives.

The project and presentation were prepared by the Department of Environmental Affairs of the Municipal Secretariat; construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2024.
