Ukrainian World Congress welcomes historic signing of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes today’s historic signing by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement during the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels, Belgium.
The signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is an important step toward Ukraine’s accession into the EU as a full-fledged member.
This significant event was testimony to the victory of the Ukrainian people who, in November of last year, rose up against the decision of the governing authorities of the time to reject the Association Agreement and at the cost of human lives fought on numerous EuroMaidans for their political choice of a European course for Ukraine.
During this time the UWC, together with the millions-strong Ukrainian diaspora, furthered by various means the signing of the Association Agreement and called upon the EU to support the Ukrainian people in their fight for democracy and a dignified life.
“With the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement the Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the EU and its member states to concretely and effectively assist Ukraine defend its borders and protect its territorial integrity, which includes Crimea,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “Only decisive and focused actions by the EU can stop Russia’s brazen aggression and secure peace and stability in Europe.”
