Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community

to support Ukraine’s defense of its territorial integrity

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) supports the efforts of the President of Ukraine to ultimately bring peace, security and stability to Eastern Ukraine.

On 1 July 2014, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko made a public statement terminating Ukraine’s unilateral ceasefire in the Donbas region and initiating appropriate action to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine, liberate the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts from Russia-backed terrorists and secure the safety of Ukraine’s people.

In his address to the nation, the President of Ukraine declared: “Termination of ceasefire is our response to terrorists, insurgents, marauders, everyone who tortures civilians, paralyzes the economy of the region, disrupts payments of salaries, pensions, scholarships, blasts the railroad, destroys the water pipes and deprives people of normal peaceful life.”

The UWC calls upon the international community, particularly the signatories of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances and all the member states of the European Union that just signed the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, to effectively assist Ukraine defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The feeble response of the international community to Russia’s gross violations of its international commitments has already caused the illegal annexation of Crimea and hundreds of deaths in Eastern Ukraine.

“This is a defining moment in history that will either put an end to Russia’s brazen aggression against an independent country or fuel the imperialistic ambitions of Russia’s President to recreate the Soviet empire that endangered world peace and stability through the better part of the 20th century,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
