Ukrainian World Congress welcomes OSCE resolution in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the Resolution on Clear, Gross, and Uncorrected Violations of Helsinki Principles by the Russian Federation adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on 1 July 2014 condemning the brazen aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The Resolution condemns “the clear, gross and uncorrected violation of the Helsinki principles by the Russian Federation with respect to Ukraine, including the particularly egregious violation of that country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” and considers the actions of the Russian Federation “to have been unprovoked, and to be based on completely unfounded premises and pretexts.” Affirming its support for Ukraine, the Resolution specifically:

14.  Calls upon all participating States to refuse to recognize the forced annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation;

15.  Calls upon all participating States further to support and adhere to mutually agreed and fully justified international responses to this crisis;

17.  Calls on the Russian Federation to end its intervention in Ukraine and to bring itself into compliance with the Helsinki principles in its relations with Ukraine and with all other participating States;

18.   Supports continued efforts and initiatives of the OSCE to respond to this crisis, and calls on all OSCE states to provide both resources and political support and to allow the OSCE to work unhindered throughout Ukraine, including Crimea;

The UWC appeals to all OSCE member states to implement this Resolution by taking meaningful measures to curb Russia’s insatiable imperialistic ambitions and to actively assist Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The resoluteness of the international community in providing effective assistance for Ukraine at this critical juncture will demonstrate its true commitment to the Helsinki principles and ultimately ensure peace and stability in Europe,” commented UWC President Eugene Czolij.
