Ukrainians in Japan create seminars for newcomers

The Ukrainian community in Japan and the Association of Friendship Ukraine-Japan NGO Krayany have created and published a series of seminars in Ukrainian with practical advice for all newcomers to the land of the rising sun.

“Japan is a particular country and not suitable for all foreigners. It is challenging for newly arrived Ukrainians to find their way around, so we started collecting helpful information on the website, broadcasting it on the radio, and organizing seminars. In addition to helping newly arrived Ukrainians, we also wanted to increase the content in Ukrainian,” said Svidran Olena, initiator and organizer of seminars, NGO Krayany.

The selection of Krayany’s 20 online seminars introduces the Japanese education and childcare system, medicine, and women’s healthcare in particular, covers taxation, and gives practical advice on natural disasters and even New Year’s celebration to the newcomers from Ukraine. Lecturer Yuko Nadani and translator Anna Bogdanova offer help with basic Japanese language skills.

Such valuable seminars facilitate the adaptation of newly arrived war refugees and serve as a worthy example for organizations and communities worldwide to follow to aid new refugees’ integration.
