Five years behind bars: Moscow’s church metropolitan convicted

The metropolitan of one of the Vinnytsia dioceses of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate was sentenced to five years in prison. The priest publicly justified the full-scale invasion of Russia, the Security Service of Ukraine reported.

“The figurehead distributed propaganda leaflets among the faithful, calling for the seizure of power and the change of the borders of the state border of Ukraine. He posted publications supporting the Russian occupiers and their war crimes on one of the websites of the Russian Orthodox Church,” the Security Service of Ukraine explained.

The head of the diocese was tried on four counts, in particular, actions for the violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order, encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and justification of Russia’s aggression.

“The examination of the materials initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine seized during the searches (pro-Kremlin propaganda and literature) confirmed the facts of the metropolitan’s illegal activities,” the SSU added.

Previously, NGL.media, together with YouControl, created the first real estate database and map of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (part of the Russian Orthodox Church) in Ukraine.
