The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) expresses condolences to the families of the innocent civilians who lost their lives during the night of 16 August 2015 as a result of separate terrorist attacks by Russia‑backed forces on residential areas in Eastern Ukraine.
The village of Sartana near Mariupol came under heavy fire resulting in the deaths of two civilians and six injured, including a 10-year-old girl. One civilian was killed during the shelling of Horlivka near the city of Donetsk.
“The Ukrainian World Congress condemns the escalation of fighting by Russia-backed terrorists in Eastern Ukraine in blatant contravention of the Minsk agreements,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “We call upon the international community to help protect the civilians in Eastern Ukraine.”
