The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the actions of Members of the Russian Duma that resulted in the launch of an investigation by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office into the legitimacy of the recognition of the independence of the Baltic states as reported on 30 June 2015 by Russian news agency Interfax.

This is another affirmation of the imperialist intentions of the Russian Federation which, pursuant to the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and military aggression in Eastern Ukraine, is making every attempt to revive the Soviet Union.

In 2008 Russia invaded Georgian territory, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, while in August of last year during the Seliger 2014 National Youth Forum Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the Kazakhs “never had any statehood.”

“The Ukrainian World Congress repeats its call for the international community to fully appreciate the threat from Russia to peace and stability in the world and to provide concrete assistance to Ukraine in order to enable it to stop Russia’s aggression against Ukraine which currently defends the Eastern border of the Euroatlantic region,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
