On 22 April UWC leadership held a teleconference with Vadym Prystayko, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.

The discussion focused on coordinating support for Ukraine and identifying key areas for further cooperation. In early April Deputy Prime Minister Prystayko was appointed to lead the united coordination mechanism for consolidating and analyzing the information on financial, expert and technical assistance requirements to counter COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine. The mechanism aims to improve cooperation and coordination with all partners supporting Ukraine.

UWC President Paul Grod outlined key priorities of the recently established UWC COVID-19 Task Force, as well as highlighted assistance to Ukraine already provided by the diaspora (deliveries of medical supplies to Ukraine’s hospitals, humanitarian and social projects etc). Renata Roman, Task Force Chair and UWC Board member, highlighted potential new areas for cooperation between Ukraine and diaspora, including mechanisms for best practice exchange between experts from Ukraine and other countries globally, sharing the experience of re-purposing the manufacturing businesses, supporting micro and small businesses and more. Viktor Hetmanczuk, UWC Director for Humanitarian Initiatives – Canada Ukraine Foundation President & Acting CEO, presented pilot initiatives to support Ukraine’s social sector.

The discussion also touched on strengthening the international network of support for Ukraine against Russian aggression and maintaining sanctions, countering Russian large-scale disinformation campaign and manipulations. UWC consistently promotes the truthful image of Ukraine among its international partners, including via information campaigns about Ukraine’s role in fighting COVID-19 pandemic, for example, Ukraine’s role delivering medical equipment and supplies.

“Amid extraordinary challenges, the global Ukrainian community finds ways for support and assistance. The Ukrainian World Congress works with governments, churches, international organizations, businesses and partners worldwide to coordinate timely, effective and efficient support for Ukraine”, – stated Paul Grod, UWC President.
