UWC PRESIDENT CHAIRS MEETING TO ESTABLISH

UKRAINIAN NATIONAL CENTRAL REPRESENTATION IN GERMANY

AND ADDRESSES ICSU CONFERENCE

On April 1, 2012, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij chaired a meeting organized to establish a Ukrainian national central representation in Germany and addressed a conference sponsored by the International Conference in Support of Ukraine (ICSU) in Munich.

Around 40 representatives of local Ukrainian community organizations participated in the meeting to discuss establishing a national coordinating body in Germany. The UWC President was joined by UWC Vice President Jaroszlava Hartyányi and Secretary General Stefan Romaniw. It was resolved to convene an inaugural congress in 2012 and an organizing committee was elected. Eugene Czolij welcomed the decision and pledged UWC support for the newly elected committee.

During the ICSU conference which focused on external affairs, Eugene Czolij gave a speech about UWC priorities, namely supporting Ukraine’s Euro-integration and democratization, organizing an international observer mission from the Ukrainian diaspora for the October 2012 Parliamentary elections in Ukraine, and supporting and strengthening Ukrainian communities around the world.

The UWC President also attended Divine Liturgy at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Intercession and Andrew The First-called Apostle, and met with parish priests Fr. Volodymyr Vijtowych and Fr. Andriy Dmytryk.

The UWC is an international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 32 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 as a non-governmental organization (NGO) by the United Nations Economic and Social Council with special consultative status.
