UWC PRESIDENT EUGENE CZOLIJ PAYS FINAL RESPECT DURING FUNERAL OF FORMER WCFU PRESIDENT MYKOLA PLAWIUK


 


On March 15, 2012, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President Eugene Czolij attended the funeral of prominent community-political activist and former president of the World Congress of Free Ukrainians (WCFU) the late Mykola Plawiuk.


 


Funeral services began with Divine Liturgy at Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Burlington followed by interment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville, Canada.


 


In his remarks, the UWC President spoke of Mykola Plawiuk’s role in founding and establishing the WCFU, today UWC, and highlighted his notable life-long dedication to the development of Ukrainian statehood and Ukrainian community life in the diaspora.

The funeral of the late Mykola Plawiuk was attended by clergy and representatives of various Ukrainian community organizations in the diaspora and Ukraine.


 


The UWC is an international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 32 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 as a non‑governmental organization (NGO) by the United Nations Economic and Social Council with special consultative status.
