PRESS RELEASE

DIASPORA UKRAINIAN COMMUNITIES PROTEST ATTEMPT

BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES TO MARGINALIZE THE UWC

Ukrainian communities from over 26 countries have already protested the recommendation of the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine that the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) be treated “at best, as a representative of only a specific segment, or more accurately, certain circles of the Ukrainian diaspora.”

In addition, Ukrainian communities have highlighted their cooperation with the UWC and its long‑standing dedication to the development of Ukrainian community life in the diaspora, its work toward the establishment of an independent Ukrainian state and its defense of the rights of Ukrainians wherever they reside.

The communities also noted that they deem the UWC to be their highest coordinating body in the diaspora and share UWC values and principles.

Copies of the letters written by Ukrainian communities are available on the UWC web site:  https://www.ukrainianworldcongress.org/news.php/news/682/lang/ua

The UWC is an international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 32 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 as a non‑governmental organization (NGO) by the United Nations Economic and Social Council with special consultative status.
