The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the European Council’s decision on 21 December 2017 to extend sectoral economic sanctions against the Russian Federation for additional six months until 31 July 2018 in response to the lack of progress in implementation of the Minsk agreements. The new sanctions cover financial, energy and defence sectors, and the area of dual-use goods in the Russian Federation.
Economic sanctions targeting the financial, energy and defence sectors were originally imposed against the Russian Federation on 31 July 2014 in response to its violations of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The UWC has actively promoted the extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation until it fully complies with the Minsk agreements and de-occupies Crimea.
“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community to remain firm and united in maintaining the targeted sanctions against the Russian Federation, thereby demonstrating that violations of fundamental values such as the territorial integrity of independent states will not be tolerated,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
