At a summit in Madrid on June 23-24, the European Parliament will recommend that the leaders of the European Union grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership. Mr McAllister noted that because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the whole of Europe is threatened, so the EU must respond appropriately to global strategic rivalry and complex security threats.
