Ukrainian journalist Nataliya Kudryk, who is running for the European Parliament elections on the list of the Italian party Azione, advocated for permitting Ukraine to strike Russian territory with Western weapons. Oles Horodetskyy, President of the Christian Association of Ukrainians and Ukrainian community leader in Rome, called for support of the politician’s position.
“For effective defense, it is necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be able to use weapons provided by their allies, including to repel attacks from Russian territory. A positive signal would be the support of this position among the main EU countries, as well as the cessation of support for the opposite position by the Italian government,” Kudryk writes.
Ukraine will not attack civilian targets on Russian territory and will not conduct random shelling of cities hundreds of kilometers from the front, as the Russians do daily, Kudryk emphasizes. “It is about strikes on military settlements and supply chains that have been bringing death and destruction to Ukrainian territory for 27 months. Ukrainians do not want to bomb Moscow or Saint Petersburg. They want their government to hit the bases from which daily shelling of Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other Ukrainian cities originates,” the journalist concluded.
Kudryk will run in the Central Italian district. The Azione party’s program devotes significant attention to Ukraine and its future in the European Union. The European Parliament elections are scheduled for June 6-9.
