Documentary film ‘A Simple Soldier’ available for online viewing, community screenings

The documentary film “A Simple Soldier” is available for online viewing starting Sept. 18. Ukrainian organizations and communities can also contact the film’s team to explore the possibility of organizing a private screening for their community.

“A Simple Soldier” is a documentary about Ukrainian filmmaker and servicemember Artem Ryzhykov and his experience of the war in Ukraine. The film tells the personal story of a man who is both documenting the war as a filmmaker and experiencing it firsthand as a soldier.

The film had its world premiere at Sheffield DocFest and was also selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In Ukraine, A Simple Soldier received the Golden Duke for Best Ukrainian Documentary and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Odesa International Film Festival.

The film is currently also screening theatrically in Los Angeles. For viewers outside the city, the film is available to watch online. A special promo code, UKRAINE50, is available for the Ukrainian network and provides 50% off the film rental, according to the organizers.

Ukrainian communities, organizations, and initiatives interested in organizing a private screening of the film for their community can contact the film’s team to discuss screening opportunities.
