A Russian aerial attack on the south-central Dnipro River port city of Dnipro on Oct. 25 killed three civilians, including a child. Twenty more civilians were injured, as reported by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
“Dnipro has suffered damage to one of Ukraine’s most important hospitals – the Mechnikov Hospital – and ordinary residential buildings,” wrote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the time of the strike, a surgery was taking place at the medical facility. In total, there were more than 1,700 patients from five regions of Ukraine being treated there, a hospital doctor identified as Serhii told local television channel D1.

“Unfortunately, during this explosion, a cancer patient was injured; he has a laceration on his head. We immediately provided assistance to him,” the doctor said. “A doctor who was in the operating room was also injured; shards of glass cut his entire back.”
The most damaged areas were the intensive care units, where “the most critically ill patients” were treated, the doctor said from one of Ukraine’s five most populous cities.
“Not a single window, bedside table, or piece of equipment was left unscathed.”
Law enforcement has initiated an investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.
Russian projectiles also struck Kyiv, Sumy, Khmelnytskyi, and other regions on the same night, Zelenskyy added.
Overall, Russia employed more than 1,100 guided bombs, more than 560 attack drones, and about 20 missiles of various types against Ukraine over the past week.
Kyiv is “actively working with partners to stop the enemy, strengthen Ukraine, and provide maximum protection for our people,” Zelenskyy said.
“I thank our people who work day and night to protect Ukrainians from Russian strikes. Those who provide assistance and are always defending lives,” Ukraine’s second war-time president said.
