Russia’s threat of nuclear sabotage requires global rebuke

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls on the international community to resolutely condemn and impose crippling sanction on Russia for its nuclear terrorism.

“Russia is threatening to cause a nuclear incident at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant to stop Ukraine’s ongoing liberation of its occupied citizens. The United Nations (UN) and the International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA) must comply with their own rules to prevent any “incidents” at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which has been occupied by Russian invaders for more than a year,” stated UWC President Paul Grod.

On June 22, 2023, during his address to the nation, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was preparing a “terrorist act” at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. According to President Zelenskyy, “Russia has setup a nuclear timebomb and threatened an atomic catastrophe at the NPP.”

The Chief of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Major General Kyrylo Budanov informed the media that Russia has mined the plant’s cooling pond, which is vital for securing the NPP’s operation and radiation safety.

“The horrific Russian act of terrorism at the Kakhovka Dam and reports of planned sabotage at the Zaporizhzhia NPP are desperate attempts by Russia to stop Ukraine’s counter-offensive. An incident at Zaporizhzhia NPP would cause a massive nuclear fall-out which would decimate large swaths of Europe,” stated Grod.

According to credible reports, such an event would cause massive damage and radiation exposure to significant territories of Eastern and Central Europe, including the Black Sea region and Turkey.

“Global leaders must respond to Russia’s threats of nuclear sabotage as an attack of terror against the civilized world. Russia must be met with a swift and punishing response!” Grod added.
