Ukrainian tennis player Svitolina triumphs over a Russian at tournament

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the WTA250 tournament. The competition took place in Strasbourg, France. In the final, the athlete won the Russian Anna Blinkova, who performed in a neutral status, Suspilne Sport reports.

Svitolina won two sets with a score of 6:2 and 6:3. The Ukrainian and the Russian met for the first time in their careers. Before this match, Svitolina had conquested four opponents — won three previous matches, and one more opponent withdrew from the game.

This is Svitolina’s first championship title after returning to the court. The athlete has not participated in competitions since last October due to her daughter’s birth. In total, this trophy became 17th for her at the WTA level. Previously, the tennis player lost in the finals only three times.

The championship at the tournament placed the Ukrainian tennis player in 191st place in the world ranking. Until now, the last time she was in the top 200 was in October last year.

WTA is one of the most prestigious world women’s tennis organizations. The tournament consists of level 250, 500, and 1000 events, categories that indicate the number of rating points earned by the winner. The higher the place in the classification, the higher the assessment of tennis players’ professionalism.
